Nestled in the heart of Athens—Europe’s oldest capital city—King George is within view of numerous iconic monuments and within walking distance of exclusive shopping areas, museums, and the bustling business district.

This captivating collage includes heritage destinations, such as the Parthenon, Acropolis Hill, the New Acropolis Museum, and the ancient Agora—as well as historic communities, such as Plaka and Thission. Lined with cobblestone streets, these neighborhoods are home to bars and restaurants, small ouzerias, and tavernas. Further uniting the past and present, the Olympic Stadium of Modern Times—just five miles from the hotel—fuses ancient traditions with modern architecture, while the colorful Monastiraki Flea Market, less than a mile away, presents authentic relics and indigenous flavors. Additionally, Voukourestiou Street—walking distance from the hotel—features the city’s finest modern boutiques.

Along with myriad man-made wonders, Athens also features an array of natural sights, including Lycabettus Hill, the National Gardens, which are also home to the celebrated Zappeion, and a stretch of seaside along the Saronic Gulf.

Athen's natural beauty can also be discovered via a coastal drive to Cape Sounion, which includes majestic views of the deep blue Aegean Sea and ends at the Temple of Poseidon, built in the Doric style in the 5th century B.C. Additional excursions include day trips to the nearby islands of Hydra, Poros, and Aegina. Each offers its own charming character, which comprises pristine beaches and red-tiled homes in Hydra and a vibrant self-contained fishing community in Aegina.

Most shops are open from 9am to 3pm on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday, and 9am to 9pm on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Large shopping malls are open 9am to 9pm Monday to Saturday. Please note that while most shops are closed on Sunday, some are open near Plaka and Monastiraki. The local currency is the Euro.

Greek is the official language; however, English is widely spoken. The electric system is 220 volts and the time Zone is EST+7/GMT+2.
